Eric Hayman: Without checking I am unable at this present time to say for certain if Vestel are still providing "over air" downloads for that chassis, or whether because of it being an older chassis it can only be done by downloading the software into a PC then transferring the data into the Digihome via an RS232 cable between the PC and the box, which I unfortunately have to say is very likely to be the only way that its possible to upgrade that model now, of course this also affects about another 15 or so badge name brands (Hitachi / Sharp, etc) that also use that chassis.
However this is a link to the software download information site, and which only last week had a Vestel chassis download listed, but though you didn't miss anything as it was for a T836 which is a much later model.

Eric Hayman: Just for information purposes I also include the undermentioned link to the unofficial Vestel site and which on reading same you might find of interest, as it refers to upgrades for various chassis including your own, and as you will no doubt notice a qualification that applies with updates to any Vestel equipment with odd problems, basically being that software updates might effect a cure on some devices but not all.

Hi. jb38
Thanks for your help to get my Digihome DTR160 recorder to function correctly after the Reigate DSO.
I followed your links and also found some other posts on this problem, some going back
to the first DSOs. It seems there will not be a fix any time soon, or indeed ever, as this model has been discontinued.
I resolved my problem by throwing money at it. I purchased a Toshiba HDR5010KB DSR. This does all I want perfectly. It records two programs simultaneously and in HD. I recommend it.
Thanks again. CU Eric

Eric Hayman: Thanks for the update re your purchase of a Toshiba HDR5010 and pleased to hear that you have found it to be totally satisfactory for your requirements, the only slight reservation I have with Toshiba devices being by them having a tendency to be sluggish to commands, as other than that I rather approve of Toshiba products and are easy to work on.
I also feel that you were wise to ditch the DTR160, because any attempts to cure its deficiencies in my book comes into the category of, and to use the expression, "flogging a dead horse", as you can spend no end of time downloading the firmware upgrade into the PC, then having the inconvenience of transferring the file into the Digihome via an RS232 lead, only to find out that after having done so that the whole exercise had turned out to be a waste of time, as in many cases these older devices really requires a hardware update in the form of tuner, rather than a software attempt to cure their ailments.
Anyway, thanks again for your update.
Regards / jb.

Just re-aligned the aerial to point at Reigate, from Hannington, as we had lost a lot of channels since switch-over. Reigate seems to be Horizontal, not Vertical as stated here???

Roger: I don't think that you will be able to receive from Reigate at your location. I think that the most likey transmitter is Crystal Palace which is 22 degrees anti-clockwise from Reigate and is horiztonal.
If you have re-aligned due to not being able to pick up the COMs (that's the Commercial channels including ITV3, Pick TV, Yesterday, Film 4, Dave etc) from Hannington, then the reason for this is probably down to the Chepping Wycombe relay transmitter using the same channels and therefore drowning out Hannington's COMs.
You should be aware that if your aerial is a Group B one, which it might be for Hannington, then it won't be optimum for Crystal Palace which is Group A. If it is a wideband aerial (or Group K), then it will be fine (although widebands aren't as sensitive at the bottom of the band (Group A channels)).
See:
Aerials, TV Aerial and Digital Aerial
Gain (curves), Again
If it is the case that you can't get the COMs from Hannington, then you could theoretically combine an aerial on Hannington and one on Crystal Palace to give you Meridian with Commercial channels from CP.
You should be able to identify which transmitter(s) your receiver is tuned to by looking for the UHF channel number on the signal strength screen.
There are five full Freeview standard definition channels and one HD one. Refer to each transmitter's page for details of the channels used by each.
