PWhy do less than one in five people with an HD set watch in HD?

Totally beyond me why people don't use HD channels. Perhaps if there were more of them or the SD broadcasts were removed they would have to. On small screens I can understand people thinking there is no difference in spite of the fact there is. But on any screen above 32" the difference is very clear, especially on any titles which are always slightly blurry on SD. I guess its like many other things, people need educating about it. I find it hard to watch anything SD any more, so am pleased to have 26 French HD channels available where I live in the south of France plus the few I can get from the UK when my Panasonic blu ray recorder with Freesat decides the signal is strong enough to give me decent pictures on the four HD channels it can get from the UK Astra satellite.

Imagine my anger at losing one of my two favourite channels as I now live in the south of France where i get 26 HD channels free to air from French broadcasters.
After watching little in SD for some time now, with a 4K tv why would I want to, Channel 4 expects the same loyalty from me in SD? Its always been bad enough seeing that Film4, More4, E4 are all available to Sky users in HD, channels that should be free to air, but no.
I can't get ITVHD where I am, which is not much of a loss and at times BBC4HD struggles but C4,HD BBC1HD&2HD and C5 HD were always guaranteed to give me wonderful picture unless the weather was really bad. Why is the UK so far behind in technical terms? Even the nonHD channels in France give better picture quality than SD channels in the UK.
